DentalPlus is the first major dental management software available that may be run as effectively from a server located in the practice as from one hosted externally. It opens the possibilities of running a single server if your practice is split over multiple sites and the ability to keep an eye on the practice whilst at home or abroad. Access to the database is via password protected secure server.
An external server also offers the advantages of offsite backups. You may run DentalPlus effectively without broadband access but it becomes essential if you wish to take advantage of the extended feature set. Broadband is now available almost everywhere for just a few pounds a month down one of your existing telephone lines.
We pride ourselves in developing with the client, and view DentalPlus
as a partnership. We are always happy for you to talk to us if you have
a specific request or would like to see new features. If your request
is accepted then it will be developed for the next upgrade,
if not we shall discuss with you. All upgrades and new
versions are provided free of charge under the licence
DentalPlus will operate on any modern Windows hardware but as with any application it performs more effectively on faster hardware with more memory. For the Server we would recommend a Pentium 4, or equivalent - preferably dual core, or dual processors. The operating system must be Windows 98SE or later, and it must have Internet Explorer version 6, or later, installed. The workstations will also need to be interconnected either via cabling or Wi-Fi.
Although internet access is not a prerequisite, if you wish to take full advantage of the extended features of DentalPlus you will need to have a broadband connection. This should preferably be 2Mb or greater, especially if running the service from an external server. The router can be configured to restrict unauthorized access to the internet.

The database is designed around an SQL database. This means that we adhere to standards and you can always write your own routines to extract data for specific printouts, if the one you want is not already in our portfolio. (Users of the Professional edition could, of course always request that we write it for you at no extra cost!). We also generate documents using an HTML editor, so you may send (or receive) documents to others in the knowledge that they will be able to read them whether or not they have Microsoft Word installed (or on other hardware platforms).
DentalPlus is able to generate emails, SMS messages, and to make contact with patients via telephone or VoIP. This new Voice over Internet Protocol can be used in conjunction with an internet phone, and DentalPlus supports system dialing direct to numbers for you, and at a lesser cost than via normal telecommunications providers.
The DentalPlus database is not only password protected but also has user level permissions which can allow or deny access to features, functions and restrict access to sensitive data.
Any external access to the server is via SSL which encodes transmissions to ensure full secure access to the database.
To ensure the security of the database, backups must be taken on a regular basis. There will be times when power outages do occur, and under these circumstances the resilience of your system is all important. We recommend portable rather than desktop computers as not only do these have a reserve power supply when the mains power fails, but they are also small enough to lock away in the safe overnight if a further level of security is required. You may also plug an external hard disk into the USB port
and take a full copy at regular intervals. For the ultimate
in security we offer an external server where the data
files may be copied each night. It is then a simple
matter to copy these files back in case of local
system failure.
Of course the DentalPlus system is unique in that
it may be run from an external secure server
either temporarily or permanently.
